West of One Wine out of the Russian River Valley, California, hired me to capture their coastal lifestyle, the love for quality winemaking, and attention to detail. The symbol features ocean waves and the sun, cut out of a clean circle so that it fits on the corks. The negative space is as tight as possible, without losing any integrity of the story.
The main brand color scheme is sunny orange to represent California weather and create an overall positive, energetic vibe for customers. The label designs follow color schemes that match the wine category coloring.
The badge formats are a newer idea developed after the logo project. I felt inspired to capture the name and symbol together so they feel like a family. A badge has fantastic printing utility, such as a sticker or label.
I picked a strong typeface that doesn't feel overly industrial, still carries class, and balances the sharp and round contours, similar to the symbol's construction.
The typography treatment above is part of the merch project and was pitched to convey lineage, tradition, and attention to detail. I'd be lying if I didn't mention that much of my work is Tolkien-inspired. This lettering approach reminded me of some old The Lord of the Rings book covers.
They also hired me for some illustration concepts. I created a badge representing family, the vineyard, and the coastal lifestyle. Something clean, friendly, and welcoming that they can use on future merch.
